Funny you say that. I did the same thing.

Maybe you should put a poll up on this, you'd probably get a better chance of people replying. You know the whole anonymity thing.

It doesn't surprise me that a lot of web developers and hosts would be attracted to this forum. These people are familiar with this type of environment where other types of small business owner probably aren't. I'm hoping that once we get some momentum here, other types of business people will de-lurk and expand our horizons.

Although I do web design, my company is not a web design company. I also found this site by google - small business forums. To my surprise this one seemed to be the only one that was a general forum....which is exactly what I was looking for. Surprised there was nothing else, and surprised this site isn't more popular.

I also am not a web designer. At present I don't even have a web presence, though that is about to change.
We have a small leather shop in a weekend flea market.

I found this forum by doing a "Small Business Forums" search. Looked several over and felt this one had the best potential.

One thing I do notice is there are a number of questions posted by folks that have no responses. This can be a real turnoff to any newbies out there who are looking for help.

Yea, I know. I try to get to as many as I can. It's getting a lot better with that now that there are a bunch of very helpful and knowledgeable people participating here. I think we're heading in the right direction, and judging by the number of offers I've received recently to buy SBF, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Yeah a developer here. I promised myself I would not get into the hosting business but now it is time. Just difficult to find people to actually answer technical questions on starting it. Guess they do not want to be seen helping the competition.

You can find a lot of information about setting up a hosting business on Webhostingtalk. You need to read between the lines there, though, because too many of the people who post there have axes to grind.

It's frighteningly easy to set up a hosting company, though. How far along are you in the process?
