of course as usual it loaded just fine in firefox, but ie is still doing the same thing, doesn't show the icon and still has 1 item remaining. Is there anything special I have to do to the server to enable this with ie?

Try adding the code to the <head>
Code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
to see if that might help.

cool, I just added that to the head of the master page. I also reworked my front ad flash file and cut the file size to less than half but the quality is still good. I will be republishing the new changes in a few minutes.

well I republished and tried again, loads faster in firefox. IE still says 1 item remaining and it wont load the icon. It just loads and loads forever so im going to go to lunch and see if it made any progress or at least times out by the time I get back

I don't know if it is the size or not - but from a few other pages - it says it needs to be 16X16. IE is very quirky when it comes to favicon. A lot of people never knew they existed before since IE 6 would hardly ever show them.

FavIcon FAQs made a good read as well. Since it is showing in Firefox and Opera but not IE, it seems to be browser related. Firefox will show animated favicons as well.

The Axalias Icon Workshop is pretty good. I have that as well as the Microangelo product.

ok I just went through my master page and found some old elements from a previous design that I was able to remove. I also found the same article about the favicon, so I made it 16x16 with 16 colors. Shrank some more images down and republished. Now it loaded on my system through ie in under 8 seconds (even though the favicon didn't show up). Looks like im starting to finally get out of the dark with this.

Just curious - can you create a simple test.html page and put that code in there to see if it shows up on that static page?

ok look at what I ripped from gc's site:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://img3.guitarcenter.com/dbase/gc/images/icons/16/favicon.ico" />

same thing i've got, but I downloaded the favicon.ico file and opened it in Axalias and its actually a 16x16 win xp format, not 16x16-16 colors so im going to try to remake it and see if that does it

this makes no sense, I created another htm page called gctest.htm, which is coded exactly the same (except it points to gc's icon) and it shows up! I actually opened their icon with Axalias and literally just pasted my logo over it and resaved it using the same format.

The only thing I can think of is that Axalias is not saving it the correct way.
