It doesn't surprise me that a lot of web developers and hosts would be attracted to this forum. These people are familiar with this type of environment where other types of small business owner probably aren't. I'm hoping that once we get some momentum here, other types of business people will de-lurk and expand our horizons.

I thought i would add my two cents to this topic. I am also web designer and foudnthis place by entering "hosting reverse affilates programs" cuz i am looking for exactly that a hosting companies that i can work with giving eahc other business back and forth. but yeah i think it will grow eventually.

Although I do web design, my company is not a web design company. I also found this site by google - small business forums. To my surprise this one seemed to be the only one that was a general forum....which is exactly what I was looking for. Surprised there was nothing else, and surprised this site isn't more popular.

Yeah a developer here. I promised myself I would not get into the hosting business but now it is time. Just difficult to find people to actually answer technical questions on starting it. Guess they do not want to be seen helping the competition.

You can find a lot of information about setting up a hosting business on Webhostingtalk. You need to read between the lines there, though, because too many of the people who post there have axes to grind.

It's frighteningly easy to set up a hosting company, though. How far along are you in the process?

Well I am horrible about reading in between the lines. I am usually pretty blunt / to the point. I have asked on that site but I cannot get any definite answers.
I wanted to make sure that if I get the control panel (Probably Helm ) which then gives you SmarterMail Professional Edition and SmarterStats Professional Edition for free. And then SmarterMail seems to integrate into Trend Micro ServerProtect which seems to be pretty cool.

One person did tell me on another site to put MSSQL on another server becaue of resources, so that was helpful. Honestly - that has been the best advice yet. People just do not want to help in some aspects I guess.

We have been talking with Calpop, they seem pretty good - they build the server $199 and they will do the patches / free re-boots from $99 a month. I get 1000G a month in badnwidth. It seems like a really good deal. We need to move some sites by the end of this month & then that way I can check to make sure everything works properly.

I aminly wanted to make sure that that was all I needed as far as the customer support. It's just that now we are getting more & more and some require a little bit more & I want to give it to them without chaging but being a reseller, that is a bit difficult to do.
