Default Earning money with a website

I have seen a number of people here have links to websites that they aren't really selling anything at from. How do you earn money with them? Peter seems to have 5 or 6. I assume people don't just enjoy spending time working on them.
I unerstand you have ads but what kind of revenue does that produce per view or click and is anyone making more than 1k a month with there site. (I hope that last question isn't to personal)

Shaun

Some people just run the ads to pay for bandwidth. My friend that hosts a few of my sites makes about $300/month on ad revenue on his site. It pays for the server. Unless your big time, ads really don't dish out a lot of coin.

It is very hard to pull in large revenus unless you are actually selling a solid or value oriented product or service. Or if you are an online marketing master like Cory Rudl. Stay away from trying to make a buch of money from ads or affiliate links unless they are extremely targeted and compliment your own products or service.

Many sites are making a fortune by selling nothing but simple text links ads. If you have a popular, highly ranked site you can get $100 per month per text link. I have one member that is selling links for a web rank 9 site at $2,000 per month per link text LinkAd. Blogs and software programming sites seem to have the highest rankings now-a-days. So there are a bunch of college kids making more money than their parents now-a-days.

If you have a web site with any kind of a following, check out where your web rank at: http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools/pagerank.php

Your post kind of reminded me of that guy on tv who's always saying "You can make money from placing tiny classified ads". Your post is valid, but hopefully he won't read this post. I can just see it now, his ads in a few years will say "I'll teach you how you can make money just from placing tiny LinkAds online." <grin>

I think your chances of striking the motherload on link advertising is very slim.

It's better known as 'text ads'. You can make money on text ads, just as you can selling banner ads, or whatever other kind of advertising. I do sell advertising on some of my sites. I probably will on this site too, in a month or two. Advertising revenue on my websites isn't enough to pay the mortgage yet, but it's enough to motivate me to continue to develop websites. It's better than I can do with affiliate programs, by a long shot.

From my own experience:
I´d say forget affiliate programs. Try to sell something from your website, or go with googles adsense.

Daniel, what does selling text ads have to do with affiliate programs? You can make more in one month from a small link on your site than you can from a year of adwords.

i know the guy that runs a site that makes most of it's profits off it's ads. He does have a small affiliate link but that brings in barely anything. I'm not gonna say the exact amount he makes off his ads per month but its enough for a house payment.
if u wanna look at the site its www.ohiobodybuilding.com

not sure if i'm allowed to post that link, but its only for show. Just to get an idea of how it can be done. His site gets around 200,000 hits a month (sometimes a lot more, depends on the season) too in case you were wonderin

hope this was helpful
