Question Greenhouses and depression

I am planning on opening a greenhouse in Alberta where seasonal depression is very common. The lights I plan on using will be good for people with SAD but I don't know how to market to this section of the population without making claims that it will make you feel better. The problem is without a doctor or someone like that making the claim how can I promote it to people with SAD

I have a sister in law with Sad and She goes to alot of depression doctors for help. Maybe you can go to all your local Doctor's that deal with patients that have SAD depression and see if they are willing to work with you on a monthly Wellness group gathering at your greenhouse and then schedule the doctors to have a patients day at your green house and how to cope with sad etc. and you can have your lights all set up and etc. You might also get with massage theripst's to do sssession out at your greenhouse. Offer pampering session's. Make a room that is setup as a indoor garden etc. it's a floating idea..
I use to live in Montana close to Canada so i know how the winters can get you down. A place to have gone to in the dead of winter that seemed like spring would have helped greatly, and well worth the cost.

Great suggestions, DDD. Surely there is a way to market the benefits of the greenhouse without coming right out and making direct medical claims. Just give it a good spin! Emphasize the features of your facility and let people draw their own medical conclusions. Love the concept, by the way. Best of luck.

I have seen those lights. I am usually not effected by the short day lights but this year I really have been.

Now the manufacturers of those specail lights can help you out. They have done test to prove that people feel better after exposure to the lights for a perscribed amount of time. So get in touch with them and let them know what you are planning to do. Explain to them that you are also planning to sell their products. I am willing to bet they would bend over backwards to get you up and running.

Now also contact the doctors which deal with this condition and talk to them about sending their patients to see if the light helps them.

good hunting

PS keep us up to date on how it works out. This is a very interesting idea and if you can work out the details it well may be a good potential franchise.

You can also set up a focus group of some sort. Get a bunch of people together perhaps, for a lunch and discussion. Have everyone fill out a survey about how they feel.

Real life testimonies and independent studies can be just as important as medical claims if not moreso.

Good luck with that...

Thank you everyone for your ideas they will help a great deal when I can go ahead with the idea. Right now I have had to put it on hold due to a 8 pound 11 ounce bundle of joy so I need a little job stability.
