If you can spend either the time or the money to create a PR program, it will beat the socks off the same dollars spent on ads. PR published articles are believable. They enjoy a mystique.
For example, one local business with deeeeeep pockets spends mid 4 figures monthly on PR. They are 30-40% busier than the town average for their industry. Their average ticket is also 30-40% bigger than the town averages. JRPR, your signature mentions your web site but is not hot linked. I read 2 of Jay's books and they are really good. Not everything works for everyone or applies to your situation, but overall - he points into the right direction.
