I have noticed that the result of a search engine campaigns is that visitor show up on the website, and 97% of them leave within 2 minutes, I have been told that we can hire a company like WebGreeter.com or LiveAdmins.com to greet these visitors and help them find what they are looking for while generating a Lead. Any thoughts?

I would almost bet that the 97% that leave your site do so because they did not find what they were looking for from your site. 2 minutes is a long time to actually read a site if you are looking for something. At least it is for me. Most people who search the web pretty much scan everything until they find what they are looking for.
Now I don't think that paying a company to great people is a bad idea, it probably would help. But I bet they are pretty expensive. You can get software for your site for free that will allow you to have a box popup in from of people asking if they would like to chat. You would need to have somebody manning the software, but that is probably going to be a lot cheaper. Here are some scripts that you could look at if you like: http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Script...ort/index.html |

I'm usually just annoyed when I get to a site and something pops up on my screen. I have used live help before, but prefer it to be an option I can easily use if I so choose, not something that just pops up in my face unexpected.

I agree with Jeff and Peter. People scan very quickly and only stick around if you have content that appeals to them and what they're looking for at that particular moment. It also helps having a professional looking site. I know as a consumer, when I am shopping for something I won't spend more than 1 second of my time on a site that's not professional and easy to navigate.
Personally, I get very annoyed by anything that pops up on my screen. I don't like to be approached by sales people either. If I have a question, I'll ask... otherwise I'd rather surf in peace. Offering live support is a good idea, but let the customers come to you. ![]() |

Very true,
Do not put anything on the website that will pop up. Most of the time it creates an urgency to click the exit button on your website. I use live help and keep it in the background and usually only pop up a message if someone has been on a page for an hour. sometimes I just keep it turned off and let them leave an offline message. Sometimes I think thats more effective that actually being live. Also if you are having 97% of your visitors leave right away, don't feel ashamed it happens to all of us. If we could turn that number into 80% or 75% turned away most of us would have about 10 times more sales. Obviously you do want to keep them on the page so put yourself in their shoes, pretend you just did a search for a key term and load up the first page they would see from that link. What is it that they are looking for and for what possible reason would someone leave without going to a second page. Perhaps even try putting togeather a focus group of friends and family. Have them visit 1 page of your website and have them tell you why they would stay or not and fic up the problem. Sometimes all you need is a flashy logo, or something that says free in big bold letters. like FREE!!!! newsletter, or FREE shipping. Just the term free usually gets a second chance, I bet if you skimmed over this post the only thing you really caught were those 2 words, but don't turn it into a sleezy catch line because it only works to a certain extent. It not magic!

I agree. I hate shopping. I despise shopping - mainly because of the salespeople. So I shop for most of my clothes online.
I hate pop-ups. Not too sure which more - but now you combine both of them. When I go to a site that pops-up & asks me - Can I help you - I leave. Maybe I am annoyed... maybe I just am afraid that they are scanning my computer? But at least give me a choice. Maybe like LiveHelp or something closer. |

I'd prefer the popup to be optional. Look at the Forex site (www.fxcm.com) and you'll find that you have to click a button in order to chat to an operator. If something pops up I usually leave - before it loads to the right window.

A. Where they are coming from i.) Printed brochure ii.) Search engine iii.) Referred by another site by following a link Look at your web statistics and first figure where they came from. This should be installed already on your server. B. Next i.) Printed Brochure - Do they land on the page you advertised. ii.) Search engine - Web statistics will show you which words they used. Is it what your selling. Quite likely they showed up thinking your website was about something else. iii.) Referrers - You web statistics give you this. Go back to the link they followed and see if the content matchs the page the show up on. Hope this helps you fine tune your website. |
