'Getting Business to Come to You"
by Paul and Sarah Edwards & Laura Clampitt Douglas

Got it second-hand for $4 from Amazon (cost me more to send it to Australia - and it's the best buy I've made.

It's nearly 700 pages and it deals with essentially finding a niche and getting known as an expert on it.

It has many real-life examples of successful entrepreneurs. I was really impressed with it.

I've always been partial to Reengineering the Corporation: A Manifesto for Business Revolution, by Michael Hammer.

You'll probably all laugh at me, but the two most influential books I read were:

Read Dad, Poor Dad
Cashflow Quadrant

By Richard Kiyosaki. Looking back I realize that the books were full of inaccuracies, but this point stuck with me: You have to start a business.

The next most influential force for me was not a book, but a real estate investing course. This one question summed it up for me:

"Are you open for business?"

The teacher defined that as having a web site, business cards, a business plan, advertising in place, a business phone number, a business checking account, a LLC or Corporation, and a network of professionals to help you such as a lawyer, and accountant, and (in my case) a hard money lender. In addition, he pointed out that unless you TELL people you are a Real Estate Investor when they ask what you do, then you are not "open" for business.

I took his advice and started a business at which I am very comfortable and excel at - web sites and technology. I got my first customer 15 days after I started (Jan 15th actually) and so far so good.

For the nuts and bolts of setting up/running a small business, I recommend the NOLO book - http://www.nolo.com/lawstore/product...1716AFE940582D

For a great "Vision" book, I reccomend "Rules for Revolutionaries" by Guy Kawasaki
