When we started we dealt with NOVA and currently were dealing with Lynk. But I am not happy with their customer relations. I am not even sure if they are charging us competitive rates for the services. Anyone know a good merchant service provider or at least some things I need to look for to evaluate one (ie fees they charge for settlements or type of service provided)

Nova usually charges very competitive rates. I have heard a few complaints about their customer service, but that is normal for a company of that magnitude. The larger you get - chances are the more people you have, you cannot make happy at some point.
Plus Visa is raising the rates beginning on 1 April. If you have a contract with Nova, it might be better to stay there. Most processors are still honoring the lower rate until the end of the month |

Thanks, I think my problem was that I didnt understand how the credit cards transactions/processing work(ie weither theyre charging per transaction or a bulk percentage, volume/rate calculations...) I dont know if I am getting competitive rates or not. but posting this thread was not a bad start. I found a lot info on the net, the problem just like with everything else is finding the time to do the reading

Totally. I do not want to say they nickel and dime - but it does seem that this is what is beging done. They charge for each service that is provided to you. Some businesses understand and most understand once it is broken down and people really take a look at it
