Default Help! we had a burglary with about 1,500 in damages

a guy down the street told us he got broken in 3 times and insurance shot up each time. advised us not to make a claim because it will seriously hike the premium. My accountant said the same thing, another client had 20000 worth of damage and its appropriate for him but for something a few thousands is not worth it. I took their advised and closed the claim but told the lady im might want to reopen it later.
after i closed the claim, a friend of mine told me he had successive break ins but insurance didnt go up that much, that if i called it in its already in my record might as well cash it in, if small the premium increase might only be about 50 dollar. also he said the burgular came back after a couple days (he already knew whats inside, alarm set up) so i might get another visit too
any advise please

You might as well file now. Once you called it in they knew it happened, and you better believe it is on your record.

Often, little stuff like that is not a big deal. It really depends on the kind of premium you are paying. IOf you pay $ 300 a year, it's a big deal. If you pay $ 30,000 a year it's not going to make much difference next year.

But, in this case, where you have already told them it happened, you might just as well get your money out of it, they know you had a break-in, regardless.

Well I had a small break in and my increase was 5 or 10 dollars a year. They told me that it would be a much larger increase next time but still what good is insurance if you cant file a claim on it
