Hi guys,
A good opportunity for a mall kiosk at a good price has come up and its right through until xmas. Problem is, neither me or my biz partner have any ideas at all. So whether we do anything with this will depend on if we can choose a product. If anyone can throw out some product ideas, it would be much appreciated. Mainly looking to sell something quick and easy, not food and not electronic. Was originally thinking along the lines of those funny and retro t-shirts they sell these days..... Any ideas? Whats popular for young people these days?? cheers. |

Just go into a mall and have a look
There are literaly gazillion of things you could sell. You said that you wanna do it till xmas, well then it calls for itself - sell xmass cards and maybe personalized items, like engravings and such. |

I had a buddy who did very well with knock off sunglasses. That is until Christmas time, the cost to be in the mall for November and December almost killed him.
I also know another guy who sold Popcorn and various Popcorn flavors only durning November and December, he talked the mall into charging him very little since he was only selling popcorn. Good Luck Shaun

Most malls will not have competing kiosks for many products. Plenty of cell phones, maybe 2 sunglasses or watches, but most of the others have to be unique and not compete directly with any of the regular stores.
The thing I would suggest is go to the mall and speak to the Specialty Merchandise Manager - the person who handles the carts & kiosks. They attend trade shows, know what is hot and often have an idea what will work in their market. Of course, don't rely on them 100 %, but see what they say. And see if they can supply you with a couple of trade publications that have ads for various "themes", as they refer to what products you sell.

What about any MP3 players, or other electronics? (Just no altoids - had to add that to my spam list, seems selling altoids is the big things now?)

What about toys or calendars? Xmas is a good time for both. You should check out the franchise sites. Wall Street Journal (wsj.com) and Entrepreneur.com have great franchise listings.

MVD -
The best place to go to find profitable mall cart or kiosk products is the Specialty Retail Report magazine: http://www.kioskexpert.com/srr.htm They are the ONLY magazine that caters specifically to the mall cart or kiosk industry. Their quarterly magazine is filled with proven and new products that you can sell on a mall cart or kiosk! *** One tip: If this is your FIRST time opening a mall cart or kiosk...look for a proven product with a solid traffic record of sales. These items might not be the 'sexiest' sellers....but the key is to make a profit, right? And items with a proven track record of sales, and profits are often provide the best opportunity for a first time operator. To find these, get a copy of the magazine....and simply call about items that catch your attention. Then ASK about their track record. And if you want further information about opening a successful mall cart or kiosk business, check out: http://www.kioskexpert.com Best of luck! T-shirts are good.. mints are really good too. People keep them in their pockets for a while.

I have a similar business idea like yours, only difference is that it is a mini store rather than a kiosk. Mainly, i carry women's products which are labelled as my own and sold for under US$12. At prices like this, the inventory just take off on its own.
And talking bout Christmas stuff, i do drop shipping for christmas deco..... |
