Same Day Delivery Service.
I would start out just by using my car until I need to rent a van. I would then buy one if it all looked promising. I would just need the insurance and then target local companies for delivering packages (that I can carry) and charge say 60p a mile. Put ad in paper and join a network of other UK companies to deliver their goods. One of my main worries is not getting paid for the jobs. I know of a taxi firm locally that fell into serious debt because of this. |

The courier business in the UK doesn't work like that. You'd have to invest in a van of a courier company's choosing and pay for the radio network use and show that you have bought insurance.
You'd have to enter a contract to deliver parcels per their requirement. Couriers, if they are real fast and cut all corners can make US$900 weekly (no pound sign on this PC - convert it yourself), but most come home with US$400 weekly. It's a hard, rotten life and couriers quite frequently have accidents when they are inexperienced. Have a look at the courier van for sale ads in the newspapers and you'll get an idea of how many are leaving because they can't make a good living. The contract system for hiring courier drivers ensures that only the best and fastest will make money, the rest live in poverty.

I got the impression he was looking to start his own courier service rather than work for one. Maybe combine it with a vending route and make the trips more effecient
