Default Distributors asking for bank account number

I've came across distributors who are asking for business license, seller's permit, and a bank account number. I don't understand why they need my bank account number. Could these kinds of distributors be scams?

Why not ask them why they need that info and see what they say.

I'd be reluctant, unless I knew it was a legitimate company. Not that it will do them any good, after all, it's on every check you've ever written.

Still I'd have to have a definite reason before turning it over to someone I'd never done business with. I've had some suppliers do direct payments from my checking accounts for years, but have now gone to giving them the debit card number associated with the account, instead. Let VISA take the risk.

When setting up payment terms it is standard to for references including the bank you use. I am unaware of the need for the account number. I have given out bank account numbers to have customers wire money into the account. You would think it is safe, otherwise our customers could steal money from us.

Speak to your bank to find out if it is safe. Then let the rest of us know.
